Opinion Editorial Outline

Topic: Media influence on war in the Middle East
Subject: The media is a huge factor in warfare now; it lets people know about casualties, the attacks and the victims. It creates an impact because of the reaction it receives, the pressure it creates to me more humanitarian and it lets the world have an opinion about what is happening. Certain places and victims get more attention than others, and the question is why?
Text Type: Opinion Editorial in Time Magazine
Audience: Educated middle to high class people
Purpose: To explore why some war events call more attention and how it can become unfair for the victims who do not get the attention or health care they need.

Title: War in Media and its Effects
Rationale:
Introduction:
Is war portrayed as it really is through media? Do we see the worst of the worst? Or only what is “appropriate”?
Supporting Topic 1:
Malula Yousafzai, how her case got out and the treatment she received. Why did one girl become so well known, and why did she get all this treatment is there are thousands of kids just like her who have to suffer in the civilian areas of warzone?
Supporting Topic 2:
I will give statistics of victims in general and victims that are under 18. I will use this information to point out the way these people have to live and how they deal with injuries.
Supporting Topic 3:
Find statistics on deaths by the Taliban and write about how this could have been prevented with proper shelter and medical care.
Conclusion:
Use rhetorical question, ask why is it that we are only thinking of Malula, why is it that we don’t even ask about the rest of the victims?

How invasive can media be with celebrities?

As I came back form a week-long trip from the Dominican Republic, in which I was completely offline and uninformed of any kind of news, I went online and read the news and celebrity tabloids. As I went through the headlines, I asked myself, does this really interest me? Do I really care where these people go to dinner and who they are dating?

The answer is NO.

Not only do all these headlines not interest me, they make me feel bad for how invasive the media and paparazzi have become. The number one read story of the day on Sunday October 14th was about how Ashton Kutcher spoon-fed his girlfriend Mila Kunis. If they are a couple, why can't they engage in these activities without being bothered? The worst part is that his headline only scratches the surface of how intrusive the media gets.

Even though by the time I read through the majority of the headlines I felt completely and utterly disgusted by the invasion of privacy, I went on to look at pictures. Personally, I would consider these pictures "stalker-pictures," all of these celebrities are just trying to live a normal life and make a living, yet they cannot even go to the local coffee shop without being harassed.

The lack of privacy that these people have is ridiculous, nobody should ever have to watch their every move and remember that there is always someone watching. After getting to this conclusion, I now ask myself, why is it that we are so interested in this kind of information? If we were in their position, wouldn't we be annoyed and angry?
